Get back into education and change your life - "I did it, so can you!" says Jackie Dent

Large number of adults still not claiming education cash they're due

Jackie Dent, a single mother of three, gave up an unfulfilling job to study for a dream career as a midwife, she is just one example of how learners can change their life for the better, no matter what their age or circumstances - especially with a helping hand from an Adult Learning Grant.

Going back to learning and gaining new qualifications has given Jackie the chance to turn her life around and head in a new, more rewarding, direction.

The ALG helped Jackie Dent get back into full-time education, where she completed a higher education access course in nursing, going on to win a place - against strong competition - at University to study for a midwifery diploma.

Since the national roll out of ALG in September 2007, over 42,000 people have received ALG, vastly exceeding expectations. However, despite some 20,000 adults having already signed up to receive support from ALG this year, government figures show that large numbers of adults eligible to receive financial support from ALG are still not claiming the money they are entitled to.

Summing up the experience, Jackie concludes: "I would recommend the ALG to anyone who wants to learn new skills or study for a new career but is held back by money worries. I did it - so can you!"

If you are thinking about going back to college it's time to start looking at your options. ALG could help you - to find out if you are eligible, visit www.direct.gov.uk/alg or call 0800 121 8989 today.
